Over on Cinephilia and Beyond they have a really fascinating posting. First is the handwritten(!) ‘treatment’ done by George Lucas after his initial meeting with Steven Spielberg about Raiders of the Lost Ark.
As if that was exciting enough for ROTLA/Spielberg/Lucas fans they follow that up with a lengthy TRANSCRIPT of the actual meeting between Spielberg, Lucas and Larry Kasdan where they hash out the story.
I think this is a must read for anyone seriously interested in scriptwriting or story development. How many times have we said ‘wouldn’t it have been great to be a fly on the wall in that meeting’… well, here’s your chance.
Found this guy Darius J Britt on YouTube. I’ve never heard of him before… and now I’m a subscriber.
The video that pulled me in was this one
But man the guy has some good stuff going on over there!
Is it totally original? No. I don’t think there is too much original thought left to say on a lot of these topics, but, Darius definitely falls into the ‘if I hear it enough times it might sink in’ category. And he is a joy to watch!
If I am totally honest, it’s the kind of videos I’m looking to branch out into, so, it’s a mini-school for me too.
Thanks for the great stuff Darius!
Check him out on Twitter too
Steve Kaplan is a great scriptwriting educator, especially in the area of comedy. Why oh why does no one seem to listen!?!?!
Here’s a little snippet where he savages forced comedy.
And then sit back and enjoy the whole conversation.
Great stuff from FilmCourage.com
Recently I gave a speech at my local Toastmasters club on the Hero’s Journey. It’s hard to cover in 5 to 7 minutes, but, I think I managed to give a good overview.
This seems to be a suitable post to cross pollinate from my personal blog to this one.
And yes, I won Best Speaker that night 🙂
I’m writing a speech for Toastmasters on the Hero’s Journey and came across this utterly brilliant video about Campbell’s Archetypes.
Why is everyone more talented than me?! Amazing work.
The whole thread is kind of interesting!
